Tomato Chatani (Sauce) Recipe

Whenever I plan to make Momo at home, the first thing comes to my mind is the sauce to be served with it. Today I am gonna share my hubby's recipe of Tomato Chatani. This recipe is very easy to follow and hardly takes 20-25 minutes to prepare.

Ingredient Required:
  • Tomatoes (4 -5 medium size)
    Main Ingredients
  • Dried Red chilies (3 if you want more spicy you can add more) 
  • Garlic (5-6 cloves finely chopped)
  • Timur aka Sichuan Pepper (5-6 husks)
  • Turmeric (half tea spoon)
  • Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil

Instructions:
  1. Take a non-stick pan and heat little oil.
  2. Put Red chilies and deep fry it till it become shining red.
  3. Put the chopped garlic in it fry till it become light golden brown.
  4. Put the turmeric in same oil without mixing it with the garlic and fried chilies.
  5. After about 10 seconds add tomatoes in it.
  6. Add salt to taste.
  7. Fry the mixture in medium to low flame for around 5 to 10 mins or till the tomatoes become soggy.
  8. Take out the mixture from pan and put it in the fridge (you can also add some ice cubes in the mixture while putting it in fridge).
  9. Once the mixture is cold enough add the lemon juice.
  10. Grind the mixture in mixer grinder.
  11. Now tomato chatani is ready to be served with hot-hot Momo.

Tips:
Ready to be served!
  • For better taste add white sesame seeds while deep frying the red chilies.
  • Add some coriander leaves while grinding the mixture in grinder.
